Anantnag: The family members of Mohammad Yaseen Bhat, who was arrested on Thursday last, have contested claims by Anti-Terror Squad of Gujarat police that he is ‘prime conspirator’ in Akshardhar temple blast in 2002.
Mohammad Yaseen son of Ghulma Mohiuddin Bhat of Batpora Khanabal Anantnag was arrested on Thursday midnight by Gujarat Police’s ATS.
“Our Father is innocent. He is not involved in any militancy related activities. He is a labour and had been working in sawmill from last several years at Aang Anantnag,” said Ishrat Yaseen, elder daughter of Bhat.
She said that Gujarat Police “is lying” about involvement of his father in any militancy related activity.
According to reports, Gujrat police says Bhat had allegedly transported the explosives during the Akshardham attack.
However, the Bhat’s family maintained that he never went out of the state or Pakistan.
“The Gujarat police have wrongly accused involved him in the case. In 2004 he was arrested by J&K police and was lodged in Cargo Srinagar for seven months related with a case. In 2005 the court of Additional Judge Srinagar acquitted him and released him,” his family said. Senior police officers in the district could not be contacted despite repeated calls.
