Srinagar: As many as 22 residents of Jammu and Kashmir are in foreign prisons, government of India informer parliament on Wednesday.
“As per the information available with the Ministry, the number of residents of Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) in foreign prisons as of 15.07.2019 is 22,” said Minister Of State, Ministry Of External Affairs, V. Muraleedharan in response to a question by National Conference parliamentarian and former judge Justice Hasnain Masoodi.
“Due to strong privacy laws prevailing in many countries, the local authorities do not share information on prisoners unless the person concerned consents to the disclosure of such information. Even countries which share information do not generally provide detailed information about the people of foreign countries imprisoned,” he said.
The MoS said that while 11 persons are in the prison of Saudi Arabia, seven are in Pakistan while one each is in Belarus, Cambodia, China and Bangladesh.
