Srinagar, July 18: Department of Education, University of Kashmir (KU) organised a two- day Orientation Programme on “Lesson Planning cum-Internship” for B. Ed. Teacher Trainees which concluded here on Thursday.

In her Presidential address Officiating Vice Chancellor KU Prof. Nilofer Hassan Khan advocated the great role of the teachers as she said teachers are the architect of the society.

She advised the budding teachers not to enter in this profession devoid of compassion as teachers have to build the personality of young children who later become the citizens of the society.

She reiterated the role of teacher as a model for the society and said “Teaching is a profession brimming with passion, piousness, commitment and dutifulness.”

Dr. Satbir Bedi IAS Chairperson NCTE New Delhi was the Chief Guest on the occasion.

She highlighted the importance of Lesson planning and emphasized that teachers need to create the required environment in their class rooms to develop the wholesome individuality of the child.

She added that students ought to be given ample opportunities so that they can realize their true potentialities.

Prof. Mohi-ud-din Sangmi Dean College Development Council KU in his address focussed emphatically on the importance of Lesson Planning. He suggested short courses to train the teacher’s viz.-a-viz. the innovative trends and techniques in teaching and classroom skills.

Prof Mohammad Ahmad Khan Director Distance Education KU highlighted the importance of lesson planning and internship as these programmes he said introduce to actual classroom teaching practice enabling the teachers to get an insight into the profession practically.

The Dean and Head School of Education and Behavioural Sciences, KU Prof. Mohammad Iqbal Mattoo in his inaugural speech highlighted the importance of organising such programmes.

In addition he stressed on the fact that lesson planning and internship go a long way in enhancing teaching competencies among pre-service teacher trainees.

During the inaugural function of the programme, the Department of Education also released its 2018 Issue of annually published journal ‘Insight- Journal of Applied Research in Education’.

Dr. Mohammad Amin Dar presented the vote of thanks on  the occasion and Mr. Manzoor Ahmad Rather – the organiser of the programme conducted the proceedings of the inaugural session.
