Srinagar: The Dal dwellers expressed resentment against the Lakes and Waterways Development Authority (LAWDA) for ignoring the worsening condition of Dal Lake.

A visit to the interiors of Dal Lake by this reporter was quite disappointing as the condition of world famous Lake seems more worsening as compared to the previous years.

People affiliated with Shikara business told The Ins that no work is being done from past three months with the result the weeding and other things in Dal Lake is increasing rapidly.

They were apprehensive that in case the condition of Dal Lake was not controlled then the Dal Lake will be soon a history. “We are trying our best go take care of the Dal Lake but couldn’t do so properly in absence of proper equipments. The Dal Lake has been ignored by the government,” the residents said.

Dal dwellers further stated that many of them were given a plot at different places to live after being evacuated from here but despite that no concrete step was being taken to ensure the Dal Lake is preserved.

Pertinently, the government claimed to have taken several steps for the preservation of Dal Lake while the High Court had also formed a committee to look into the issues pertaining to the Lake.

However, the Dal dwellers said that these officials are only doing paper works but fail to implement proper procedure on ground. “The front side is being taken care of while the interiors are being ignored, therefore leading to mess in the interior side,” they said.

Notably, the incumbent VC LAWDA has been given an additional charge of the department.

The locals said that Dal Lake is the backbone of tourism in the Valley but the government doesn’t even bother to appoint apposite VC who would focus on its preservation properly.

The interiors of Dal Lake is full of bottles, polythene bags, dirt, weeds and muddy water but residents said this situation if continues will turn ugly for whole Kashmir
