Srinagar: Two militants whose identity and group affiliation was not revealed so far by police were killed a gunfight with government forces in South Kashmir’s Shopian District on Sunday.
A police officer said that a cordon-and-search-operation was launched prior to the crack of dawn amid intelligence inputs about the presence of militants at Daramdora area of Keegam village in Shopian.
The militants, he said, were cornered in an orchard and on seeing the joint team of army’s 44RR, police’s Special Operation Group and CRPF, they opened fire, which was retaliated, leading to a gunfight. “Two militants were killed and their bodies have been also recovered along with as many rifles,” the officer said.
The identity and the group affiliation of the militants were being ascertained, he said. In last several months, most of the gunfights took place around dawn. Meanwhile, internet services have been suspended in the Shopian district.
