Srinagar: A day after Egypt’s former President Mohammed Morsi, ousted by the military in 2013 after one year in office died; the students, scholars and faculty members of Kashmir University on Tuesday offered funeral prayers in absentia for the deceased.
As soon as the afternoon (Zuhar) prayers culminated, the faculty members, scholars and students assembled in KU and offered funeral prayers in absentia for the Morsi.
They also prayed for the eternal peace to the departed soul.
Meanwhile, the locals from Hyderpora will also offer funeral prayers in absentia for the deceased at 05:30 pm today.
Sources said that the funeral prayers in absentia for the deceased will be held at Jamia Masjid Hyderpora at 05:30 PM today.
Morsi was in custody since his removal from office in 2013 while as the Human rights bodies had been raising the voice over the deteriorating conditions he was kept since long.
Reports said that a top figure in the now-banned Islamist movement Muslim Brotherhood, Morsi had just spoken from a cage at a hearing on charges of espionage. State TV has said the cause of death was a heart attack.
However, the Muslim Brotherhood has termed his death as a “full-fledged murder”.
