Kupwara: A Government run Upper Primary School at Gujjarpati within the educational zone of Drugmulla in northern belt of Kashmir is facing multiple problems that include compromising the health of students enrolled.
190 students are enrolled in the school.
“Despite repeated pleas to authorities and higher ups the trees have not been cut even though government itself has ordered of felling them,” a local told INS, adding that pollen from the trees has created health issues in the area specifically for students in the school.
Another problem faced by the school is that there is no drinking water facility available.
The area is irked, complaining that rural areas are being punished for their locations.
“Adding to these issues the school lacks ground facility forcing us to hold the morning assembly on a link road every day,” an insider said.
Interestingly Zonal Education Officer Drugmulla Wahab Ahmad Wani claimed that the department is not to provide facilities to students but staff.
“Our job is to look after students. Staff strength is fine there and wards are being taught. We are not here to provide them buildings etc,” Wani said.
“I’m not responsible for any sort of untoward incident if surfaces,” he said putting blame on locals for not providing land.
