Srinagar: As rains relent and sun started to shine, the chances of flood reduced considerably in Kashmir Valley.
Having breached ‘alarm mark’ of 18-ft in south Kashmir’s Sangam gauge yesterday, the water level in Jhelum in the south Kashmir was 16.34-ft, much below the ‘flood alarm’ mark,  at 10 a.m. on Thursday.  At Ram Munshi Bagh here, the Jhelum was flowing at 17.80 at 10 a.m., above alarm mark of 16-ft. “The water level will reduce and chances of flood are very remote now,” said an official of Irrigation & Flood Control Department. The flood is declared in Srinagar when level crosses 18 feet mark. “It is very unlikely that water level will cross the danger mark now,” he said.
At Asham in northern Kashmir’s Bandipora district, the official said, the Jhelum level was at 12.16ft, almost 2-ft below the mark when flood is sounded.
Regarding some tributaries, the official said, the water level has receded in Vishow Nallah at Khudwani and at 10 a.m., it was 5.41 m against flood level of 7.0 m. Similarly, he said, the level at Rambiyara Nallah at Wachi was 2.03 m against danger mark of 5.7 while the nallah Lidder at Batkoot was flowing at 1.2 m against the danger level of 1.65 m.
