Shopian: Clashes erupted between protesting youth and government forces near gunfight site in Dragad area in Shopian district on Friday.

According to locals sources youth took to streets and clashed with forces who are conducting the anti militancy operation in the area.

They claimed that protests intensified after news of killing of two militants spread in the area.

“Forces have retaliated with tear gas cannister shells to disperse the protesting youth. The smoke has filled the area,” thy claimed.

Gunfight broke out in the orchards of Dragad in the wee hours of Friday and heavy exchange of gunfire was reported.

Police sources say that they had launched a joint operation with Army after receiving a specific input about militants hiding in the area.

Clashes were going on when last reports came in.
