Official apathy: Since 1957 Education department fails to acquire land for this Anantnag school

Anantnag: Despite tall claims of streamlining and modernizing its schools, the State government has failed to acquire land for constructing a concrete building for the Government Middle School Mehman Mohalla Lalchok Anantnag, established in 1957.

The school is located in heart of the town i.e Lal Chowk in Anantnag District.

It has a total roll of 40 students with 14 teachers.

“Maximum students enrolled are non locals whose parents come to valley for work,” an official said.

The school runs from rented accommodation of Auqaf Building in town.

“The school lacks all the basic facilities, It has no toilet leave aside seperate for girls. None cares for this school or for that matter students,” a parent told INS

Parents, whose wards study at the school claim that school has land upon which a school can be constructed by lackadasical approach of education department has destroyed not only school but the students as well

“There are no proper facilities of washing room, playground, science laboratory, computer laboratory, library, etc.

Muneera Akhter headmistress of the school told INS that she had conveyed to EX CEO Anantnag regarding the school last year but ‘action was not taken’.

ADC Anantnag Altaf Ahmad Khan assured  proper action in the case saying that directions will be passed to concerned department.

“Will ask Chief education officer Anantnag to visit the spot and make a report on school and submit same withing 5 days,” Khan said.
