Restrictions in Srinagar parts ahead of JRL called Eid Gah Chalo

Srinagar: Strict restrictions remain imposed in Srinagar parts in Tuesday following a shutdown and EidGah chalo call by Joint Resistance Leaders (JRL) to commemorate the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq, martyrs of 1990 Hawal massacre and Abdul Gani Gani.

Eyewitness said that there is a large deployment of forces in and around old city Srinagar.

The authorities have decided not to allow a procession led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Old City,  and have put him under house detention.

All the business establishments,  schools are closed and there is no vehicular movement on roads.

“The roads are filled with forces and gypsies.  They are stopping every passer by,” they said.

They said that concertina wires have been erected to create road blocks restricting pedestrian movement as well.

The authorities on Monday announced that they have ordered imposition of restrictions in parts of old city in view of a shutdown call by JRL.

The curbs remain imposed in Nowhatta, Safakadal, Rainwari, M.R Gung and Khanyar police stations.He said that the decision has been taken as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in wake of the strike call by separatists tomorrow.

Mirwaiz was scheduled to lead a protest demonstration from Jamia Masjid to the martyrs’ graveyard at Eidgah tomorrow as a mark of tribute to Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq on his death anniversary.
