Tangmarg: National Conference leader Farooq Ahmad Shah along with former minster Javid Ahamd Dar Sunday kick-started the Kunzar Premier League (KPL) at Kunzer in Tangmarg. Sixty four teams of the Tangmarg Constituency are participating in this sixth edition of the tournament which is being organized by the former IAS officer himself.
Speaking on the occasion, Farooq Shah said that Gulmarg Constituency was rich in sporting talent with youth already having received acknowledgement in winter sports throughout the world. He said the local youth had enormous sporting talent which needed to be channelized in a proper way, and providing platforms like this tournament was key to that. He said youth needed the facilities to explore their talent and providing sports fields, stadiums, sports academies and other such facilities would be of great help to these youth. Addressing a large gathering who had come from various areas of the Constituency to watch the inaugural match, Shah that he has joined politics only with an aim to help the youth in whatever way he could. He said when the National Conference govt would take over, he would ensure that Tangmarg Constituency gets all kind of sports infrastructure the local youth require to excel their talent. He said football, Cricket and other sports would be promoted in the area, whereas the winter sports infrastructure in Ski resort of Gulmarg would also be upgraded.
Meanwhile former Deputy Commissioner turned politician Shaukat Ahmad Mir and a large number of locals were also present in the inaugural match that was played between Shooch Palpora and Goom Ahmadpora teams.
Shah also appreciated the Organising Team including Gulzar Ahmad, Aijaz Ahmad, Hilal Ahmad, Ishfaq Ahmad, Muneer Ahmad, Majid Ahmad and M. Ashraf for working round the clock to make the tournament a success.
The locals in the meantime hailed Farooq Shah’s efforts in organising such tournaments and said local youth need such platforms to explore their talent. Pertinently three more tournaments are under progress in the area and all of them have been inaugrated by Farooq Shah.
