Sogam protests against unscheduled power cuts, lack of other facilities

Kupwara: The inhabitants of Sogam in this frontier district on Monday afternoon took out a protest march against the authorities for failing to provide the basic facilities like water, electricity, proper macadamization of roads and medical facilities.
Scores of people including elderly, youth and children joined the protest and raised slogans against the administration. They were demanding the adequate availability of all the basic facilities including an immediate end to unscheduled power cuts.
“The commuters who travel towards Kupwara or within the Lolab sector face immense problems due to dilapidated road conditions,” they said.
“People are facing hardships due to unscheduled power cuts. Residents especially students are suffering for want of timely electricity,” they said.
The protesters said that public health engineering department has failed to maintain its service lines laid decades ago. “Department has allotted some field employees in selective area who perform as per their mood and are least bothered about the sufferings of common people despite paying bills on time,” they said.
With recent transfers in Health Sector, they said, department has failed to cope up with the patient rush.
The residents urged State governor, Chief Secretary and divisional commissioner Kashmir to personally intervene into the problems faced by them.
