Tangmarg: Underlining the need for development of the sports infrastructure to help youth excel their sporting skills, National Conference leader Farooq Ahmad Shah on Sunday said that youth of the valley possess huge talent which needs to be channelized in an efficient and proper way.
While inaugurating a cricket tournament at Chukar in Tangmarg, the former IAS officer said that the valley has produced international famed sports persons like Parvaiz Rasool, Manzoor Pandav, Tajam ul Islam which is an acknowledgment to the fact that if provided opportunity, the Valley boys and girls can compete and prove their talent even at International level. He said sports is an important activity in the personal development of an individual in the modern day life. “Therefore the need of the hour is to provide the best possible facilities to the young generation at every level.”
He stressed upon the need of modern play grounds fitted with floodlights, indoor stadiums and other facilities so that the sports culture is groomed as a full-fledged career option for the aspiring and talented youth. Shah while underlining the significance of the sports said that Gulmarg was a famed winter sports hub over so many decades and said it would be developed further as per the modern requirements once the National Conference Government assumes charge. He hoped that Omar Abdullah would form the next government in the state and said the youth oriented policies would be the foundation stone of his government’s program which would include sports development at grass root level.
He said not only cricket but other sports activities would also be given an equal importance. According to Shah NC Government would ensure that talented youth are provided opportunities to move forward and will be given chance to not only represent state at various platforms but also represent country at international events.
Meanwhile the inaugural match of the Chukar Premier league was played between Ranwanpora and Chukar. Nearly 34 teams have registered themselves in the league.
