Official apathy: Declared unsafe, substandard, ‘Samzan premium salt’ still available in Anantnag markets

Anantnag: A Kolkata based referral laboratory for Food Safety department has declared “Samzan premium salt iron and iodized salt” available in the market as unsafe, substandard and of misbranded quality.


Samples of the salt available in Anantnag markets were procured by Anantnag food safety department from ICDS project Anantnag vide code no 261/DO/Ang/001 in presence of Anti corruption Bureau Kashmir.
Analysis report was submitted for Samzan Salt by referral laboratory Kolkata.
The director lab vide report no G-14-6/DO/2019-98 Dated 28/03/19 has found the sample as of Substandard, Unsafe and Misbranded quality on account of “ LOW iodine Content, higher iron content misleading label declaration”.


The said sample of double fortified salt was procured from ICDS project Anantnag vide code no 261/DO/Ang/001 in presence of Anti corruption Bureau Kashmir.
The salt, sources said, is still available in the market.
