Policeman killed in road accident, accused driver on the run

Baramulla: A policeman was killed and his colleague was injured in road mishap at Weervan in this north Kashmir district.
Reports said the policeman along with the colleague were on way to attend duty at District Police Lines (DPL) Baramulla when a speeding Maruti Alto 800 car (JK05F 4668), on way to Uri, hit their bike (JK016 0304), leading to injuries to two bike riders.
The injured, identified as Shafoor Ajaiz Wani alias Shaheen son of Ghulam Hussan Wani and Bilal Ahmad Maliki son of Mohammad Yousuf Maik, both residents of Zandafran Zam Zampora Sheeri Baramulla were referred to District Hospital Baramulla for treatment from where doctors referred Shafoor Ajaiz, having critical head injuries, to SKIMS Soura for advance treatment. Ajaiz succumbed to his injuries at SKIMS Soura, a family source said.
A police spokesman confirmed the death said that a case (FIR No. 55/2019) under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Baramulla. “The Alto car has also been seized in the matter and Accused driver has fled from the spot and police is making efforts to arrest him,” the spokesman said.
Shafoor was the lone bread earner for his family. He is survived by wife Sakeena and three minor children aged nine, seven and one respectively, the spokesman added.
