Sopore: Native village of Hurriyat patriarch Syed Ali Geelani, Duroo village in Sopore boycotted the Parliamentary polls on Thursday and the three polling booths in the area failed to open vote account till evening.

According to locals the three  polling booths at panchayat Ghar, Gov’t High School boys and at Govt high school girls failed to open account as not a single vote was cast there.

“There was a minor stone pelting on the booths as well,” local sources claimed.

They said that no one from the area turned up to exercise the franchise till evening.

Joint Resistance Leadership comprising of Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a state wide shutdown and urged people to stay away from polls.

Mirwaiz was quizzed by NIA for three days and on Thursday evening he returned back to valley while JKLF chief Yasin Malik has been arrested by the agency in alleged ‘terror funding case’.
