Srinagar: The dilapidated condition of roads in Srinagar City is creating problems for the commuters here, who have accused the authorities concerned of ignoring their plights.
The roads in Srinagar especially in Old city including Baba Demb, Srinagar, Khanyar road and many interiors besides roads in Ram Bagh, Sarai Bala and other adjacent areas are in dilapidated conditions, thus leaving the commuters to lurch at large.
The commuters as well as locals from Srinagar areas said that they are facing immense hardships in absence of proper macadamized roads in their areas. “Though many of the roads were macadamized a year or a two before but now the situation has got worsened as the roads have developed potholes, thus giving tough time to the commuters,” they told INS.
They said the roads should be macadamized in a proper way so that people won’t be forced to face hardships.
City residents lament that roads have turned hazardous owing to the potholes and the accidents have increased manifold.
The potholes are not only affecting the four-wheelers but have also become a primary reason for the accidents. The faulty designs of the road are also a major reason for the accidents, they said.
The local residents as well commuters later appealed the authorities concerned to look into the matter and fulfill their demands at an earliest so that they could heave a sigh of relief.
Chief Engineer Roads and Building (R&B) Kashmir division, Sami Arif Yasvi told Indian News Service (INS) that he has already instructed the officers to repair the roads that have developed potholes.
However, he said that the major macadamization process in Kashmir can’t be started before May 15 in view of the weather conditions. “The macadamization of roads can only be started after May 15 but the roads that have developed potholes will be repaired soon as I have already passed the instruction in this regard to the officials,” he said.
