Protests held over JRL call against ‘custodial killing of Rizwan’, Sikhs join demonstrations in Awantipora

Awantipora: Protests and rallies were organised on Thursday demanding action against alleged killers of Rizwan Asad Pandit, who died in Police custody.
Demonstrations were held in Awantipora, old city, Lal Chowk by people, traders and National Conference respectively.
Sikh community joined protest demonstration by the family of Rizwan in Awantipora raising slogans including  ‘We want justice’ & ‘Rizwan ke qatilo ko pesh karo’.
“The protesters assembled at old National Highway near Gurdwara Awantipora. They refuted the claims of Rizwan trying to escape from custody,” they said.

Jammu and Kashmir National Conference protested against the custodial killing and were led by senior leaders Ali Muhammad Sagar, Nasir Sogami and Mubarak Gul.

Senior leader NC, Nasir Aslam Wani said the death of youth in custody is condemnable and to carry out a protest today was aimed to convey a message that such killings are unacceptable to the people of Kashmir.

“Though such killings have taken place in the past but now, the era has changed and it is unacceptable to people of Kashmir as we have moved far much ahead from the previous scenario,” he said.

Chanting anti-BJP slogans  they demanded “exemplary punishment” to the killers of Rizwan.

The protesters marched from party headquarters at Nawa-e-Subh complex towards Lal Chowk. However, they were stopped by a posse of police at Tourist Reception Centre.

In old city traders marched on roads demanding strict action against the ‘killers of Rizwan.’
