Srinagar: The Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir Valley with the outside Valley, was closed on Wednesday, officials said.
“The highway has been closed,” a traffic department official said. Sources said that landslides triggered by incessant rains at several places in Ramban district led to the closure of the highway.
According to an official handout issued here yesterday, the traffic was to move from Jammu towards Srinagar, for both LMVs and HMVs. However, the traffic department had said in view the advisory issued by weather department, forecasting snowfall and rain in J&K, there was possibility of disruption on the thoroughfare and commuters were accordingly advised to check the status of the highway before starting their journey.
