Handwara: The fierce gunfight between militants and government forces in Handwara continues for second day and intermittent firing from both sides is ongoing in Langate area of the district.

IGP Kashmir SP Pani told reporters that there was no breach of Standard Operating Procedure in conducting the operation but the area was congested and they had to evacuate civilians from the site.

Four forces personnel were killed on Friday after militants, presumed to be dead, opened fire on the forces party leading to fatal injuries to which they later succumbed.

“The exchange of gunfire between the two sides in ongoing and only after the operation is over we can have the number of hiding militants but there was no lag from the security end,” Pani said, on the sidelines of the wreath laying ceremony of the killed police personnel.
