Srinagar: With petrol pumps running dry in Kashmir Valley from last couple of days, the Srinagar roads witnessed less traffic on Tuesday while as a huge rush of commuters as well as locals carrying cans and bottles were seen assembled outside petrol pumps here.
All the roads across Srinagar witnessed less traffic since this morning as most of the vehicles have no petrol to ply.
Many commuters since this morning were seen searching for petrol either black or on petrol pumps but all in vein as all the pumps are running dry, thus leaving the commuters to lurch at large.
Eyewitnesses told INS that many of the commuters were seen pushing their cars, motorbikes as the tanker of their vehicle was running dry. They were seen asking for petrol pumps or any other shops selling the petrol.
They added an everlasting queue of commuters and locals were seen outside petrol pumps here, waiting to get their vehicles, cans or bottles refilled.
Much to the disappointment of the people waiting in the queues, the petrol pumps yet again for the fourth consecutive day here continued to run dry due to the shortage of petrol in the Valley.
The government has said that the shortage of essentials including petrol, gas and other things has caused due to the frequent closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway.
The highway was intermittently closed in this month following the landslides, snowfall, avalanche and rains across the Valley.
Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr. Shahid Choudhary has also chaired a review meeting today to take stock of transportation of petrol and other essentials.
DC Srinagar conducted a review meeting for fast tracking transportation of LPG, Diesel, Petrol and petroleum products.
Earlier, the divisional administration Kashmir had on Monday evening expected an end to fuel and LPG shortage in Kashmir Valley by Tuesday evening.
“We are expecting an end to the shortage of petrol, diesel, and LPG by tomorrow evening,” Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan had said.
