Srinagar: As government of India is rushing 100 companies to Kashmir Valley amid massive crackdown on resistance leaders and Jamaat-e-Islami, rumours are ripe that internet and phone services in Valley are being snapped. However the officials are tight lipped and refuse to divulge any details hitherto.
“I don’t know. Cannot confirm whether or not services are being suspended,” a police official said on being asked to comment on rumour regarding internet and phone services being snapped in the Valley. Asked why there was such a build up with more companies of paramilitary forces being rushed, the official responded: “There are orders that are being followed on the ground,” he said.
The Indian home ministry has called for an urgent deployment of hundred more companies of central paramilitary forces in Kashmir.
“We have to urgently deploy CAPFs in Jammu & Kashmir. It is requested to provide 100 coys of CAPFs (CRPF – 45, BSF-35, SSB-10 & ITBP 10) to government of J&K with immediate effect and till further orders. IG (ops), CRPF is requested to ensure immediate movement of forces in coordination with IG (ops) of all forces,” read a Home Ministry letter to the state government, copies of which have been also sent to IG(Ops) to CRPF, BSF, ITBP and SSB.
Earlier, there was massive crackdown on Jamaat-e-Islami ahead of the hearing on Article 35A in the Supreme Court which is likely to take place next week. The crackdown which saw arrest of Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami among others followed arrest of JKLF chief Mohammad Yasin Malik last night from his residence at Maisuma here.
