Jammu: Traffic on the Srinagar Jammu highway has been halted after a massive landslide  blocked the road at Mankote area and almost 1000 vehicles have been stranded since five hours.

According to SSP Highway Jitendra Singh a landslide of almost 300 meters in length has blocked the road and men and machinery has been put in place to clear the blockade.

The traffic remains halted for five hours now on the only road connectivity of Kashmir with the rest of the world. Highway was opened for one way traffic after remaining closed for three days.

“Landslide hit the road at mankote area between Banihal and Ramban. It has a length of 300 meters,” Singh told INS.

He said that more than 200 vehicles are stranded near the Chenani tunnel.
