Over 400 transformers damaged in recent snowfall

Srinagar: Over 400 transformers have suffered damages in Kashmir valley in the recent snowfall that lashed valley and buried governments claim of preparedness. 

Chief Engineer Power Development Department (PDD) Hashmat Qazi while talking to INS said that department didn’t suffer any major damage in the recent heavy snowfall.

However, he informed that over 400 transformers developed technical snags or got damage in the snowfall that continued from Wednesday to Thursday night.

Qazi further stated the repairing work is apace and at least 70 transformers were repaired in a day on Friday and were sent back to the respective localities.

“The work on repairing the transformers is going on and all the damaged transformers will be repaired shortly to ensure the consumers don’t suffer,” he added.

He further stated that the damage causing to transformers usually remain high but the snowfall led the mount in its number. “The men and machinery have been pressed to get the damaged transformers repaired on war footing basis,” he said.

Pertinently, the Valley continued to receive fresh spell of snowfall from Wednesday morning till Friday morning. The heavy snowfall across the Valley also led to the closure of Srinagar-Jammu highway since past many days.

In the aftermath of snowfall, many areas across Kashmir complained of no electricity on Thursday while as the PDD as per officials had pressed its men and machinery to repair the damage that had caused due to the snowfall.
