New Delhi: The World Bank hosted a three-day Regional Conclave in New Delhi on ‘The Role of the State and Women Self-Help Groups’ in building community resilience.
The Conclave kicked-off with a unique ‘Made in South Asia’ fashion show where India’s most prominent fashion designers showcased the work of South Asia’s weavers, embroiderers and artisans.
The master crafted products from the two clusters under the World Bank sponsored Jhelum & Tawi Flood Recovery Project of Jammu and Kashmir viz. Paper Machie from Zadibal Cluster and Crewel-Chain Stitch from Noorbagh Cluster were also highlighted in the show. Artisans from these two clusters gave a live demonstration at the conclave and were appreciated by the visitors from across the globe.
The Conclave hosted a vibrant bazaar of over 5,000 handcrafted accessories, clothing, decorative items and farm-based produce created and produced by women’s groups and enterprises in World Bank-supported projects in South Asia, including Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Nepal and 13 states across India including the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
The local producers came together with industry experts to chart out ways to take their produce to regional and global markets. Practitioners from across South Asia also discussed the regional approaches for scaling up the women’s efforts and bringing in private sector investment.
Sheikh Modasir Jeelani, Qaisar Anjum and Azhar Suharwardi, Assistant Handicrafts Training Officers from the Department of Handicrafts, represented the state of Jammu and Kashmir at the said venue.
