Shopian: Shopian’s Imam Sahib Tehsil is brimming with anger as the college recently granted for the Shopian district will be established in Zainpora tehsil, despite revenue department identifying land for the same in former tehsil.

Locals are aghast at the governments decision of setting up college in Zainpora tehsil, saying that the Imam sahib tehsil, fulfills all the criteria of having the college.

“This is the reason that prior to making an announcement the district  administration of Shopian district asked revenue wing to identify the land in Imam Sahib tehsil,” locals at the Imam Sahib area told INS.

Imam Sahib Tehsil they say consists of nearly 30 villages, an the land for setting up college was identified at Kadgam village.

“We will fight tooth and nail against this injustice. Government has acted against its own promise of college here,” residents of Imam Sahib Tehsil said.

DC Shopian Owais Ahmad, however said that the establishing college is solely governments prerogative and that the decision has taken at the highest level.

“Only one college has been approved in district Shopian which is sanctioned to Zainapora village,” Ahmad said.

Officials at the Tehsildar’s office seconded claims of Imam Sahib residents and said that they had received orders from higher ups for identifying land for the establishment of college.

“We submitted a detailed report to higher authorities that the land has been identified in the Imam Sahib tehsil for the college,” he said.
