Srinagar-Jammu highway closed due to landslides over the stretch

Srinagar: The Jammu-Srinagar highway remained closed for the third consecutive day Saturday due to fresh landslides at Banihal and Ramban areas.

A fresh landslide hit the road this morning while the debris clearance operation of earlier landslides was still going on, a traffic police official said.

He said that no traffic will be allowed on the highway till it is absolutely safe.

“Landslides and shooting stones occured at Anokhi Fall,Panthial and Battery Chasma for past three days triggered by the rainfall and snowfall,” they said..

According to the Traffic Police sources, about 200 trucks and tankers and 50 passenger vehicles have been stranded between Chanderkot and Banihal for past three days.

And more than 100 passengers have been sheltered by the Ramban district administration in the Government Higher Secondary School, Ramban and Raghunath Mandir Community Hall where they have been provided blankets, mattresses, heating arrangements and food.
