Baramulla: Massive gatherings at slain militants funeral, police disallows scribes from covering Akhoon’s last rites

Baramulla: Massive gatherings were witnessed at the funerals of three slain militants in Baramulla area of North Kashmir on Thursday.

Journalists, however,  were not allowed to cover the funeral of one of the slain militants.

The slain trio were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Toiba militants.

They were identified as Shoaib Akhoon of Khanpora, Mosin Mushtaq of Qazihamam and Nissar Darzi of Jamia Mohalla Old Town.

“We have been stopped at the bridge connecting the area were funeral would take place.  They are not allowing us to cover Suhaib Akhoons funeral which we are being told is almost over now,” a journalist said over phone.

Locals said that there was a massive throng at the slain militants funerals and the area is reverberating with pro-islam, Pro-Pakistan and Pro-freedom Sloganeering.

“The funerals are over and amid processions they will be taken to be laid to rest,” locals said.

Meanwhile complete shutdown is being observe in Baramulla region of North Kashmir over killing of three local militants on Jan 23.

Shops and other business establishments are closed while traffic in old town is off the roads.

Locals said that a heavy police deployment is on the streets to thwart any pro freedom processions.

Three militants were killed in a gunfight with government forces in Binner area of the Baramulla district on Wednesday.
