DC Shopian visits snow affected areas

Shopian: Deputy Commissioner Shopian Dr Owais Ahmed along with a team of officers today visited snow affected areas of district including Bongam where two single storey houses were gutted due to fire which started early in the morning due to a short circuit.

The Deputy Commissioner distributed Rs 25000 each for the three families living in these two houses and directed the officers to provide food items, blankets and utensils to the families. He interacted with the families and ensured them of all the assistance from district administration.

He also directed the revenue officers to submit assessment of loss caused due to the fire immediately so that the families can be compensated at the earliest.

Deputy Commissioner also visited the snow affected areas to take stock of the snow clearance and arrangements of health care, water supply and food items available in the far-flung areas of the district. He also directed the officers to remain present at their headquarters and be ready 24 x 7 to tackle any issue arising due to spell of snowfall in the district.

Many areas of Shopian are witnessing moderate to heavy snowfall since last three days and according to district administration 90 percent of roads have been cleared from snow and the machinery is expected to clear the rest by this evening.

DC said that district administration has setup a help line at mini secretariat where people can contact for help and assistances.
