After fresh satellite imagery, MeT forecasts improvement in weather from tomorrow

Srinagar: The meteorological department on Monday evening said present weather conditions would persisted for next 12 hours and there would be decrease in precipitation thereafter.
“As per latest radar and satellite imagery, the weather system over J&K with same intensity would persist for next 12 hours and thereafter decrease in precipitation,” an official of the MeT said.
Amid the forecast, parts of Kashmir Valley received moderate to heavy snowfall while rains lashed most of the plains including Srinagar.
The Srinagar-Jammu highway has been closed amid snowfall at several places along the thoroughfare, a traffic department official said.
The MeT official said that Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort, had 36.6mm (when converted into rain) of fresh snow in 33-hours till 1730 hours while as it recorded a low of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius and maximum of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam recorded 19.6mm of fresh snow during the time and night temperature settled at 0.2 degree Celsius and the famous hill resort has maximum of 2.8 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, also in south Kashmir, recorded a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius and maximum of 9.6 degrees Celsius while Kokernag had low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius and maximum of 7.6 degree Celsius respectively.
As per meteorological department, there was 37.6,mm of snowfall recorded in Kupwara during the time and minimum temperature there settled at minus 2.9 degrees Celsius while it had maximum of 1.6 degrees Celsius.
This summer capital of the state also witnessed 14.2 mm of rainfall during the time and it was raining when this report was filed.
Meanwhile, a traffic department official told INS that Srinagar-Jammu highway, the only surface link connecting Kashmir with the rest of the world, has been closed amid snowfall at several places along the thoroughfare.
