Srinagar: Two workers were killed and four others were injured after a cable car of the under-construction Jammu ropeway project, being inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, crashed on Sunday.
The crash took place due to a technical snag near the Mahamaya temple on Sunday evening and all the six persons were aboard the cable car, a police official said.
According to preliminary information, one of the cable cars got detached and crashed, resulting in the death of one of the workers on the spot and injuries to five others, the official said.
The injured were rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital, where two of them died.
The Jammu ropeway project, planned to boost tourism in the winter capital, is likely to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on February 3.
Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah expressed anguish and grief over the death of two persons in the trial run mishap at Mahamaya and described the incident as most tragic and unfortunate.
Farooq and Abdullah conveyed their condolences to the bereaved families, prayed for peace to the departed souls and wished speedy recovery to the injured.
