BASHARAT RASHID
Tral : The apple farmers of Tral area in South Kashmir’s Pulwama have expressed resentment against authorities, demanding compensation for the loss of their apple orchards due to snowfall in November last year.
They said that despite the passing of more than two months, government failed to compensate them to their llosse.
A delegation of farmers from Chewa Ullar, Mandoora, Panner, Hayuna, Nagbal, Machama and other areas of Tral have said that, they are eagerly waiting for the compensation but “no concrete step is being taken to fulfil our demands, which is injustice for us.”
They said that most of the areas in South Kashmir already got compensation “but despite back to back assurances from concerned authorities” their losses are yet to be compensated.
“We were assured of compensation that time in November when snowfall hit the area badly and damaged almost all the apple orchards here. Two months have gone nothing has been done so far,” Gh Hassan, a farmer said.
The farmers talking to INS demanded immediate compensation to their losses and requested DC Pulwama to intervene in this regard.
However, DC Pulwama GM Dar has said that, farmers with 35% losses will only be compensated to their losses.
He further said that as per the data filed by concerned tehsildar, Tral areas doesn’t come in the record of 35% loss.
Earlier in the month of November last year, snowfall hit South Kashmir and damaged apple orchards here in nook and corner.
Pertinently, Soon after that snowfall, Governor Satya Paul Malik had said that compensation will be given to the farmers who lost their crops due to snowfall in Kashmir
