2 militants killed in Kulgam encounter, clashes ensue

Kulgam: Two militants have been killed in encounter with government forces at Kathpora area of Yari Pora area in Kulgam district on Saturday evening.

Official sources said that the identity of the slain militants was not so far established. The searches in the area are also going on, they said.

The encounter ensued after a group of four militants fired upon the government forces amid a cordon and search operation launched by them including 34 RR and police.

One the militants in the group, they said, included top Commander Zeenat-ul- Islam of Sugan Shopian and police sources said that it would be premature to say that he was among the slain. Unconfirmed reports said that two militants among the group have also managed to escape amid clashes in the area.

Reports said announcements were made on mosque loudspeakers, asking others to come out.

People in large numbers from adjacent areas including Frisal, Redwani, Hawoora also marched towards the encounter site.

Meanwhile mobile internet services have been snapped in the South Kashmir district.
