PULWAMA : The locals of Hayuna Nazneenpora in south Kashmir’s Tral sub district staged a protest demonstration on Tuesday against power development department as they have been reeling under darkness for the “past two months”.

The protesters said that “concerned authorities are showing no interest in getting the damaged transformer repaired, which is not able to give electricity to the village since months.”

Protesters included men, women and children.

The protesters said that the prevailing darkness due to the lack of power supply has added to the miseries of villagers in these chilly days particularly to the students.

They said that despite the passing of more than two months, no concrete step is being taken to repair the damaged transformer.

“It has been more than two months since then, there is not any effort by the concerned officials to get the transformer repaired,” locals complained.

They appealed PDD authorities to intervene and to take concrete step in ending two months long darkness in the area “by repairing the transformer or replacing it with new high capacity transformer.”

Assistant Executive Engineer, Power Development Department, Tral, Mohd Maqbool Ahanger, told INS that, power issues are due to load in the area because of recent snowfall.

He said that they have many cases like Hayuna and all the transformers are being repaired.

“I request Hayuna people to cooperate with us. We will try our best to resolve their issue soon,” Maqbool said.
