Anantnag: Villagers of Sagam Kokernag held protest against the Block Development Officer Sagam, accusing the officer of demanding “commission” for works allotted under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).
The BDO, however, rejected the allegations as baseless and said that protests were motivated and “they wanted their files approved illegally.”
Reports said the protesters including contractors raised slogans against the BDO, alleging bills and other works are not done without paying “commission.”
“Why should we pay commission for the public works,” the protesters told INS.
Meanwhile, the BDO termed the allegations baseless and said that the protesters want to their files approved illegally. “They were few protesters and included workers of a particular party,” the officer told INS.
