Kupwara: Wani Mohallah in Muqami Shahwali of northern Kashmir’s Kupwara District is without water for four months now, the residents say even after knocking at authorities doors they have been left to ‘God’s mercy’.
“The pipe lines are already laid in the area since years but in past four months the PHE department and it’s field staff have failed to provide the water to Wani Mohallah while rest of the areas of our hamlet receive water supply on daily basis,” residents said.
Residents said that they have repeatedly urged authorities to restore the water supply to the area and have apprised District Adminstration including PHE department High Officials many times, but ‘to no avail’.
“For past four months our women folks are fetching portable water from far off places in pots and other utensils,” they said.
An official from the concerned department wishing anonymity said that there was dispute about the pipelines among locals but we have restored the supply and ‘may be few households have some issue with the supply we will look into it’.
He refuted the claims of locals saying that the water supply to the area is affected from past four months claimed that they have been providing water tankers supply to the area.
“Muqam Shahwali zone has shortage and they have approached to office as well department, we will look into the matter,” the official said.
