Temperatures rise above freezing point amid forecast for snowfall in Kashmir

Srinagar: The temperature in most parts of Kashmir Valley rose above freezing point amid forecast for rain and snow, the weather office said on Monday.
The minimum temperature in Srinagar settled at 2.4 degrees Celsius; 2.2 degrees Celsius in Qazigund and 0.3 degrees Celsius in Pahalgam;0.8 degrees Celsius in Kupwara and 1.6 degrees Celsius in Kokernag , an official of the Met department told INS. Gulmarg, the world famous skiing resort was only place where mercury settled below freezing level, recording a low of minus 6.0 degrees Celsius.
Amid the rise in temperature, the weather office has predicted rain and snowfall at isolated places in the next 48 hours.
“There is possibility of fairly widespread light rain/snow in Kashmir region and scattered in Jammu and Ladakh region in 24-hours,” the weatherman said, adding, “There is possibility of widespread to fairly widespread rain/snow in subsequent two days.”
