Shopian/Srinagar: After initial gunfight for about 20 minutes, there is a lull in Sangran area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district and the officials have not ruled out the possibility of militants having managed to fled from the spot.
Sources told INS that massive searches were underway by a joint team of army’s 34 Rashtriya Riles, paramilitary CRPF and police’s SOG at Sangran. “There is lull and no firing is taking place. Searches are going on in the area,” they said. Asked whether militants have managed to escape, the officials said: “It cannot be ruled out but nothing can be said with precision as massive searches are still going on in the village.”
A gunfight between militants and government forces started early Monday morning in the village soon after joint team moved towards suspected house where militants were hiding.
Meanwhile the authorities have snapped internet in the area as a routine measure to prevent people, especially youth, from marching towards the encounter site.
