Srinagar: The six militants, killed in an early morning gunfight with government forces, at Satkipora area of Anantnag district on Friday, were identified by the police as locals and owing allegiance to Lashker-e-Toiba and Hizb-ul-Mujahideen outfits.
According to police, the slain have been identified as Azad Ahmad Malik alias Dada Malik (LeT) son of Nazir Ahmad Malik of Idgah Mohalla Arwani Bijbehara Anantnag ; Unas Shafi Bhat (Hizb-ul-Mujahideen) son of Mohd Shafi Bhat of Takiya Maqsood Shah Bijbehara; Basit Ahmad Mir (LeT) son of Ishtiyaq Ahmad Mir of Pushwara Anantnag; Atif Nazar (Hizb-ul-Mujahideen) of Waghama Anantnag , Firdaus Ahmad of Pulwanma and Shahid Ahmad Malik of Kawani Awantipora.
The Gunfight between government forces and militants broke out at Sekipora area of Bhejbera early on Friday morning.
Meanwhile, violent protests erupted at several places in southern Kashmir’s Anantnag district and according to witnesses, people, mostly youths, took to streets in Shalgund, Kanelwan and Dachnipora villages of Bijbehara area and clashed with the government forces.
Similar reports were received from Khanabal locality of the district where forces resorted to aerial firing to break the protests.
Internet has been suspended in the district and railway services too have been suspended by the authorities.
