Srinagar: A Jash-e-Mohammad militant was killed and a policeman sustained “minor” injuries in a gunfight with government forces at Tral in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Friday.
A police spokesman said that a cordon and search operation was launched by Police and army in Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral “based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area.”
As the search operation was going on, the spokesman said that the hiding militants fired on the search party and the fire was retaliated, leading to an encounter.
“In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of encounter,” the spokesman said.
Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant was a Pakistani codenamed as Anwar who was affiliated with JeM.” He was involved in attacks on security establishments, the spokesman said.
Moreover, police said, one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. “He is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter.”
Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials, the spokesman said. “People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any.”
