Srinagar: A militant and a civilian were killed in a gunfight in Shopian district of south Kashmir, reports said on Sunday.
While body of a militant along with an Ak-47 rifle and some ammunition was found soon after the encounter, the reports said one more corpse was recovered from near the site of gunfight early on Sunday and has been identified as that of a civilian, Shahid Ahmad Mir son of Mansoor Ahmad of Gagran.
Last night, a joint team of government forces had recovered body of militant, Irfan Ahmad Bhat son of Ali Mohammad Bhat of Bandzoo Pulwama. So far there has been no official statement regarding the encounter and the killings thereafter.
The gunfight had ensued last evening after a joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation in Khudpora village of the district.
