Srinagar: Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura has been badly hit by a funds crunch as officials claim the maintenance fund allotted to institute is not being provided full .
According to senior official in the institute said that for long the SKIMS sought enhancement in the maintenance grants.
Shortage of which hampers process to upkeep the hospital.
An official said that the SKIMS was promised almost Rs 20 crore as maintenance fund however a tiny part of this has been provided to them.
SKIMS caters to 10 districts of the Kashmir division besides serving far off regions like Doda, Rajouri, Ladakh and Kargil.
Senior doctors complained that over the years “there has been no improvement in the facilities at the institute despite claims to the
Director SKIMS Omer Javaid Shah told INS that the maintenance is hampered due to funds crunch.
“Our estimate is that we should be provided Rs 20 Crore for maintenance only however only Rs 2 crore is being provided to us. This hits the maintanence of institute badly,” Shah said.
SKIMS has two Sarai’s which work as a mini hospitals as well.
Recently patients had to suffer as sarai one developed a electricity snag and for whole night patients were using candles and only after patients raised hue and cry, technicians came next day afternoon.
The Sarai’s, officials say are badly hit as many people coming from far flung areas use them and recently a Sarai was opened by SKIMS.
The sarai’s host many Cancer patients and Kidney transplant patients other critical patients.
“There is no heating system, windows are broke,” official said, adding that Sarai’s need renovation.
