Srinagar: The civilian death toll due blast at encounter site, left unsanitized post a gunfight in which three local militants were killed, and use of live ammunition by government forces at Kulgam in south Kashmir on Sunday has mounted to seven.
Reports said the teenager civilian as Aqib Ahmad Sheikh son of Gul Mohammad of Makhanpora, Kulgam, had died near the encounter site and was among initial casualties. His death was confirmed late due to blockade of voice calling and internet by the authorities.
With his death, the civilian killing toll has risen to seven in Kulgam where three local militants were killed and two soldiers injured in the gunfight at Laroo village.
Most of the civilians died due to blast near the encounter site while others were killed in live ammunition used by the government forces to disperse the protesters who took to streets soon after the joint team of army, CRPF and police cordoned off the area early on Sunday.
