Kulgam:  An army soldier was injured as a gunfight broke out in Laroo area of Kulgam in south Kashmir on Sunday morning.

Reports reaching to media that a joint team of army’s 9RR, CRPF and SOG cordoned off Laroo area today wee hours.

Soon after the forces fired several gunshots amid the cordon leading to an encounter, they said, adding that in the initial exchange of fire one soldier received injuries and has been hospitilized.

A police officer also confirmed that the gunfight broke out between the militants and the government forces in the area and said that two to four militants are believed to be trapped.

He said that earlier the cordon-and-search operation was launched in the village following specific information about the presence of some militants. Internet also snapped in the Kulgam district.
