Srinagar: A two- day National Urdu Congress under the theme “Language, Literature & Society” organised by Department of Urdu, University of Kashmir is to begin from Wednesday, 24th October 2018.

According to the organisers the purpose of the Urdu Congress is to bring the stakeholders of Urdu Language together on a common platform for dialogue, general discussion, literary criticism and exchange of new information among the participants and open a pathway towards further research and development.

“Also this is an endeavour of the department to provide an opportunity to faculty members and prospective scholars to enrich themselves with the various aspects of the areas of language, literature and society in current research environment,” said Prof Arifa Bushra Head, Department of Urdu University of Kashmir

She added “The relationship between Urdu language and society is deeply rooted and interdependent in a way that language incorporates social values. Language is the primary tool for communication purpose, for establishing peace and order in society, society however, controls the language and evidently societal changes have produced a transformation in the Urdu language itself.”

According to the organisers the event which marks as the first Urdu Congress in Jammu & Kashmir would witness the presence of some of the most prominent personalities in Urdu Language and participation from the scholar community and faculty members from various renowned universities within the country, which would surely be a proclamation for further research and development in Urdu language, addressing need of the hour.

Vice Chancellor, KU Prof Talat Ahmad would be the Chief Guest at the inaugural function, followed by several technical sessions on both the days.  

Meanwhile the department has also organised an evening programme ‘Sham e Ghazal’ for the participants on Thursday, 25th October 2018, 4.15 pm onwards.

Notably, the event has come at a time when the Government of Jammu & Kashmir along with the expert community is making efforts for the promotion of Urdu Language.
