Srinagar: Government on Friday imposed strict restrictions in Downtown parts of Kashmir’s capital city Srinagar to prevent the protest against the killing of militants and civilian by the government forces in Wednesday.
The call for protests was issued by the Joint Resistance Leadership on Thursday.
Witnesses said that the government forces have restricted the movement of people in Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, M.R.Gunj, Safa Kadal and Maisuma police station area while the deployment of police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has been increased.
The Joint Resistance Leadership has also asked the Imams to highlight the “excesses committed by the forces” during their Friday sermons.
All higher secondary schools and colleges have been shut to prevent student protests. Classes at the Kashmir University have also been suspended for the day.
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has been placed under house arrest at his Nigeen residence. Farooq delivers the Friday sermon at historic Jamia Masjid in Srinagar.
