‘4 militants killed in Boniyar woods’

Srinagar: Four militants were killed in an encounter with army in Boniyar forests in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Thursday, a local news agency reported here.

According to it, a search party of army’s 5 Grenadier intercepted a group of militants at Torna post in the woods of Boniyar at around 8:30 am.

After being intercepted, the militants opened fire triggering off the gunfight which according to sources continued intermittently till 12:30 pm, the report said.

An army officer also confirmed the incident and said that four unidentified militants have been killed and their identity and group affiliation are being ascertained, the news agency said.

“Three bodies have been recovered by the forces and additional reinforcements of the army at around 1:30 pm and later one more body was recovered late in the evening as the area is a high terrain and have dense forest cover,” the officer said. ( with inputs from GNS)
