Srinagar: An Indian Army soldier has been arrested on charges of espionage at Meerut. The soldier of the Indian Army’s Signal Regiment was arrested on charges of leaking information to Pakistan’s spy agency ISI, reports said.

He is currently being questioned by the police for further information. The arrest comes just days after Nishant Agrawal an engineer at the BrahMos was arrested on charges of passing on crucial information allegedly to the ISI.

Army officials have not yet disclosed the name of the man, but sources confirmed that his interrogation revealed a lot of information. He allegedly leaked information related to the division under the Western Command Base to the ISI, the report said.

The inquiry revealed that the man is from Uttarakhand and had been in touch with people in Pakistan for the past ten months. He was already suspected of being in touch with people who had numbers tracing back to Pakistan.

An internal military investigation was initiated only after the suspect shared fresh information about three months ago.

The suspect used to share all the information through end-to-end encryption, mostly through WhatsApp.

Army officers have also questioned other jawans regarding the case.

The arrested man has been working in the Indian Army for ten years. He has also named several other people in the inquiry.

The Indian Army Corps of Signals is a corp and an arm of the Indian Army which handles its military communications. The corps work closely with the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) to develop command and control software.
