Srinagar: A day ahead of the penultimate phase of the 4-phased Urban Local Bodies (ULB) elections, the state police on Friday said that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure “free atmosphere for the voters as well to the candidates.”
“We are hopeful that third phase of the polls will pass off peacefully like the first two phases,” Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Range, Swayam Prakash Pani said while talking to reporters at sidelines of function here.
He said adequate security has been put in place to ensure free atmosphere for the voters as well as the candidates in fray for the elections.
The ULB elections in the state, held after 2005, commenced on Monday and culminate on October 16. For first two phases, Kashmir Valley witnessed abysmal voting percentage while as Jammu region witnessed high voter turnout.
Earlier, Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag SIngh had said that the two phases of four-phased Municipal elections in Jammu and Kashmir passed off peacefully. “Both the phases went peaceful. Security forces and police did their job properly. Public cooperation was great. I think that the two phases of upcoming polls will be peaceful”, he said.
